For years President Trump has maintained that he is a president that avoids war.
He contends that he puts an end to conflicts: that he doesn’t start them.
Some argue that the recent strikes were not the beginning of the war, but rather the latest chapter of a conflict that has been going on ever since the Iranian Revolution of 1979.
At that time, a modernising monarchy was overthrown by an extreme religious theocracy. Since that time, “death to America” has been a frequent slogan of the regime.
The Iranian regime is seen by many as a state exporter of terrorism. It supported Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon and has been linked to terrorist attacks in various countries around the world.
So while we can say that the latest wave of conflict may have been initiated by the United States and Israel, some will argue that this is just the latest round of conflict that goes back almost 50 years.
